Let’s Chat about SNL
It may or may not be the take you expect from a character actor/comedian.
Saturday Night Live has been in my life for as long as I can remember. I’ve always watched it and looked up to the people putting together the show. Everyone who has played characters of each administration have been iconic.
Now, as somebody who plays characters on a daily basis from the current administration - I have some thoughts.
Up until last night… Saturday Night Live has not touched any of the MAGA women - which is WILD because they’re SO rich for comedy and satire.
It’s impossible for me to be completely unbiased because of the dedication I have to naming the hypocrisy of these people through satire - but I thought the cold open sketch was fine.
Do I think they gave excellent impressions? No. But that’s not their job. They were guests and their brilliance lies in our history with them coming back to this time on our screens after famously playing Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton.
I think that SNL is taking a middle of the road stance on how they are writing about this administration - but they have a lot on the line with the FCC, board members, and Sponsors.
Creators like me have way more leeway and way less overhead. So I can produce something more quickly and take more chances than they can.
I think it’s about time they brought those characters to the screen because ANY way that we as a collective can call out corruption it’s for the cumulative good.
I loved seeing Tina Fey and Amy Poehler back on screen together even if Kristi Noem was essentially Sarah Palin with lip filler. (Respectfully)
What did you think? Did you watch? Or are you consuming more independently made comedy?
I would love to hear your thoughts!

I saw parts of it but immediately thought - wow they should have just hired Lisandra.
I didn’t watch. I’ve been more disappointed the past few years with SNL as a whole. So, I watch you and other independent comics. Thank you for all you do. Your humor is infectious.🧡
